Starting Imperfect

I started writing about my life a few years ago, and today I decided to share with you...Hopefully it is motivational, hopefully it inspires you to take action in whatever it is you are going through in your life.

I recently read this: “An imperfect start is an action that you take toward attaining your goals. It doesn't matter whether you have things figured out or not. You start even without knowing what the result will look like. It involves messing up and accepting corrections along the way.”

I felt this statement spoke to me especially now, after being laid off.

What is next for me?_I asked to myself

What am I good (great) at at this stage of my career?_I pondered

What talents do I have which can make a difference (not only to a future client or employer, but also myself as an individual)?

What skills do I need to add or improve?

Mostly…What do I REALLY want to do?_the big question

I did a retrospective (still am) about the last few years and identified the good, the bad and the ugly…the possible...the exciting!

I decided to take a leap of faith and start doing things I’ve been thinking about doing, but have had no time to do.

I fear failure and I know things may not be quite right or ready for a while…but I decided that this is ok!

Start Imperfect!_I told myself

For some of us who have been fortunate to be in the creative field for a long time, our jobs become part of who we are, it is in our genes…so transitions like this are particularly challenging.

I started as a designer at the age 15, when I had a 2-month internship at a magazine…I did my first children's book at age 19...Designed packaging at 22...Lead my first video game in my 20s...and fast-forward designed my first mobile app in my 30s...A lifetime of experiences!

I'm still passionate about it! How lucky am I?

Throughout my career I've always aspired to be great at what I do, to continue to learn new skills, and to continue to reinvent myself to be relevant in the creative field.

The business of design has changed so much since I started....It has been an amazing ride!

The other day someone I used to work with for many years, an amazing Front End Software Engineer I respect very much told me: “I got a master in UX Design because of you! Your passion for design inspired me to learn about this field!” Thank you for sharing this!…it was just what I needed to hear at that moment, and your words gave me fuel!

I intend to stay in this field for the rest or my life.

If there is something I am absolutely certain about, this is it!

So here I am imperfectly moving forward and transitioning into the unknown with faith that everything will be alright, as Bob Marley said.

Happy Friday Everyone!

You too reach for the stars, imperfectly!
